Amico d Infanzia

Childhood friends. Childhood memories. Childhood lost.

Many people get to experience this a second time in their lives when they have kids. They share the toys and experiences that they enjoyed and relive the creativity of play as they watch their children develop. I have not had children, and won’t be at my age, so the process of experiencing childhood again through the eyes of my children, is emotion and experience I will never have.

Rather than be sad about the missing child, my images are an introduction to an imaginary child, to the toys I had when I was young.

Nostalgic and playful and sometimes dark, the toys take on a life of their own. I am exploring the remembered sense of fun, play and childhood fears, I had with the toys I had growing up, albeit through the lens of adulthood. They have a life of their own. They play together with the other toys and sometimes the outcome is not what was, but what might have been.

The series, is shot with a large format 4×5 camera on instant black and white film, with zoneplate (a lensless process).
