One year anniversary of Live! :: 10.25.00 :: my job :

One year anniversary of our Live! product launch. Everyone who is still here was congratulating each other for still sticking around. It was a little bit black since we are in the process of evolving and cutting whole areas of this section of the site. When it is all over it will probably take us longer to kill it than it did to create it.

I realized tonight that I have been thinking about high school friends a lot lately. Must be the fact that this spring is reunion time. For everything you hear about the internet being a great way to find people, I am having the hardest time finding old friends. I'd like to email some of them and say hey - how did you turn out?

5 years here :: 10.23.00 :: california :

5 years here in California, this month. I realized last week that I had just passed my 5 year mark here. This is the longest I have ever lived anywhere. It's kind of cool!

Guitar lessons :: 10.12.00 :: guitar :

I started guitar lessons again this week at Gryphon Stringed Instruments. Carol is a really good teacher. Hopefully with enough practice, I can sound half as good. This will be my 6th class with her.

I like playing music and feel that it is a good balance to the work I do all day at AltaVista.

Things to start doing again:
Yoga
Running
Going to the gym and having a weight routine (I think I need to hire a trainer again)
Writing
Getting into the car and just driving
Hanging out at the beach
Connecting with friends
More genealogy
Drinking more water and less caffeine
Using my 35mm and shooting
Exploring

online shopping :: 10. 9.00 :: shopping :

just ordered some new pants from the gap.com.
their new site sucks!
I have DSL and the entire order took almost 15 minutes to process.
and you call that progress. I didn't just out and out cancel it because they finally had the black pants I have been trying to order for months.
but jeez - they could learn a lesson or two from Amazon.

Cryptonomicon :: :: books :

I just finished this book - C R Y P T O N O M I C O N . wow!

I guess I am a little behind the times though. I have had the book on my shelf for several months. I actually ordered it before it was released. But like some of the Stephen King books of late, I have kept it on the shelf for a rainy day.

Almost hoarding.

Sort of like the thought of the book is more intense than actually reading the book.I hate it when a book is so good that I have to read it fast in order to get through the story so I can know what happens. When I do that (stay up all night) then suddenly the book is done and I have nothing to read anymore.

Cryptonomicon was so intense, at first I didn't like it but as the pieces were woven in together I was really impressed with the level of detail Neal Stephenson has for the various aspects of the book. He seems to be an expert at the history of World War 2 on the Pacific front, an expert in crypto analysis and internet transfer as well as other stuff he went into great detail about. Needless to say, I was disappointed that the book ended because I was just really getting into it.

Amazon and The Beatles :: 10. 5.00 :: shopping :

Two of my favorite things combined, make a dangerous thing for my Visa. As a Beatles fanatic, of course I have been waiting for the new Beatles Anthology to come out. And today it did. I have ordered it already from the Amazon.com: Beatles Store at Amazon (one of my favorite places on line). I should show my support for local and shop at the bookstore around the corner (I tried but they were sold out), but I get sucked in by the seemingly personalized messaging at Amazon and the "one click" ordering. It is all too easy. Too bad the amount of money I have spent there isn't doing anything to help the price of the stock.
