A Long Drive & A Short Ride :: 06.22.02 :: biking digital elph :

Sheila and I went for a long drive - San Jose up to Point Reyes - today via SF and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a beautiful drive, some fog, lots of hills. We had our trail books and were seeking some new biking trails. We ended up at Point Reyes and went down this one trail that ended up only being 3 miles round trip and over a lot of sand. Tough to ride in. So we drove back up the road and parked outside the gates for Tamales Bay. We thought we would ride into that park. Needless to say, it was a serious downhill ride in and a kick butt (and I mean serious kick some butt) ride back up the hill. I had to get off the bike and walk a little bit of it. Along the way, on one of my rests, I stopped and shot these.

When IAs Commune Over Dinner :: 06.14.02 :: friends sipix :

Earlier this month I had dinner with a bunch of friends in the city. I tried out my new little SiPix digital camera. It doesn't work too well inside in really low candlelight, but I liked the effect of these shots any way.

Solar Eclipse :: 06.12.02 :: coworkers sipix :

Partial solar eclipse caught in the shadows of the tree leaves
We had a partial solar eclipse on Monday. We all went out to check it out and punched holes in paper to look at what was happening without blasting our eyes out. It was pretty unimpressive until someone noticed that the leaves of the trees were casting little moon shaped openings around the shadows on the walls of the building. The result is captured here.

39000 ft :: 06. 8.02 :: digital elph photos travel :
clouds in the setting sun over utah, at 39000 feet
somewhere over Utah at around 39,000 feet. i am flying back from a trip to virginia for work. i am glad to be going home, but sad because it will be so quiet when I get home without her there. sad too because an old friendship is growing and holds so much new potential, yet i have to go home. the sun is setting and the clouds are tipped with pink and red. it seems to sum up how i am feeling right now. an endless sky with everchanging clouds spreading out not knowing where they are going or how they will end up. they are beautiful but fleeting and the day is ending.

Mighty Midget :: 06. 3.02 :: digital elph mighty midget old signs travel :

Mighty Midget kitchen, Leesburg Virginia
Once upon a time I lived in Leesburg Virginia. In Leesburg was a small mini-diner called the mighty midget. I never ate there but it was supposed to be a great place to get carry out fries and burgers. Only one guy could work in the kitchen space. Last year I started travelling back to Virginia as part of my job at AOL. I went back to Leesburg checking out my old haunts, was my townhouse still there, what about the woods where I used to walk with Maggie and take lots of photos, how about the Mighty Midget? Alas...

A girl's best friend :: 06. 2.02 :: maggie :
maggie
Maggie died today. She was with me for 12+ years. She was about 13 1/2, which is very old for a german shepherd. We had a lot of travels together - living in Virginia, moving to Rochester NY, moving cross country to California, exploring the beaches and finally me watching her grow old. Many memories of her are captured on film - she used to go out with me when I shot landscapes - she was a great model. I will miss her - a lot.
