Travelling :: 10.26.02 :: pencam travel :

Am travelling to the East Coast this week on business. I actually flew out on Wednesday and was here in the DC area before they captured the sniper. Needless to say, it is a big relief that he has been caught since I am here 4 more days. I took a drive out to Front Royal - Shenandoah Parkway - to see the fall leaves. Things were not to peak yet. The traffic was terrible, so I cut north up to Winchester and then over to Middleburg and through the heart of Loudoun County. I really love this area.

Shoreline in September :: 10.22.02 :: biking california lomo :

shoreline5.jpg

Shot some Lomo shots out at Shoreline this past September. The grasses were beginning to turn, the pelicans were still around in large groups. The water is low and the rains are still a few weeks away. I like that the images have a painterly feel to them.

Went to see Baz Luhrmann's La Boheme at the Curran Theatre on Sunday. The opera was pretty good. The sets and look were astounding.

Something new :: 10.19.02 :: my site :

Trying to use Brad Choate's pagination code in a new blog to serve up multiple page Photo Albums. I want to link this blog to those albums, but use MT to manage my templates and style sheets. I am having trouble getting the pagination code to work correctly - I had a bunch of parse errors which I fixed and now it is finally down to one Fatal error in the defining of a function that is defined at the beginning of the script.

The Gen Arts pics and Sheila's installation will be posted once I get this fixed.

Anyone have experience with these scripts and PHP? I would love your help.

Biking Alviso :: 10.14.02 :: alviso biking lomo :

alviso3.jpg
Alviso - the trails run through the marsh and the salt flats. The ride is great - windy and dusty but challenging. The wind makes up for the fact that it is super flat. I like riding out on the levys and feeling like I am taking my bike out into the bay, getting close to the water and the birds. The water is low this time of year and the algae and kelp floats to the top and is luminescent.

The 2nd San Jose Art Market was happening today - downtown San Jose, near the San Jose Rep, booths with local artists selling their wares and working. I rode my bike over and there was some pretty cool stuff. This is going on every weekend for the until November - christmas presents...there was also Swing Dancing and music over by the San Jose Museum of Art...

Guitar :: 10.11.02 :: guitar :

Started guitar lessons up again this week. I am taking two classes - Music Theory for Guitar and Bluegrass and Carter style. That way I get some theory and have songs to learn and practice each week. Over the summer I just did a theory class and I found I didn't practice as much as I should have. Not as self motivated as I need to be to keep improving.

Excuse Me? :: 10. 9.02 :: :

The implication here being that some where, someone was stupid enough to wrap their head in duct tape. This has got to be one of the weirdest things to ever grace the side of a truck.

A couple of shots from a visit to Great America this summer with coworkers. The second image is the only one I was able to take while on the rides. They go too fast to be able to hold a camera and take a picture at the same time. Some days my life feels like this...

Recent Reads: Jonathan Carroll :: 10. 4.02 :: books :

I have recently been reading the works of Jonathan Carroll. His work is slightly on the edge of fantasy, but more in the realm of surrealism. Just when you think you are reading a sort of male version of Anne Tyler, somthing very surreal happens and you know the book has gone off the deep end. He seems to mix dreams into reality and weaves the story around truly believeable events so you don't realize you are reading something that is so absurd. Strange is a good word to describe his work.

I really like his stuff and have read The Wooden Sea, The Marriage of Sticks, Bones of the Moon, and The Land of Laughs over the last three weeks.

Changes :: 10. 3.02 :: my job :

My boss left the company this week and I have now moved up into his role. I now have 9 people in my group. Yikes! Exciting. I also have a new boss who I am excited to be working with - I think I can learn a lot in this new space in this new role.

I have had so many bosses. 4 now, here at AOL - in a year and a half - less than some I know. I went through 5 in the two years at AltaVista. When we were Zip2 I had essentially the same boss the whole time. This is crazy - just when you get used to someone, you get reorged or they leave.
